I Killed My Internet

So today’s adventure in renovation. Ethan was rigging up a temporary light. There was a wire that kept getting in his way. I decided to help. I cut the wire to remove it thinking it was old phone line like I had pulled out of other areas of the house. Well this one was the most critical wire in the whole property. INTERNET. Yep. I cut the DSL line. Fortunately I usually have a box of CAT 6 sitting around. I had to cut an access port in the ceiling near the ingress point of the DSL line. Go outside and open the utility box you’re supposed to pay someone hundreds of dollars to access. I disconnected the old wire and connected up the new. I was also able to relocate the connection box to a better spot. Plugged things in and watched the lights all sync up. Except one. It stayed red. I’m thinking we’ll, go flip a couple of the wires. Just as I was about to do that it flipped blue. Speedtest showed 30M. I pay for 25. Bonus. That’s it for renovation adventures up north. Stay tuned tomorrow to see what the fuck we’re going to do to line up the 18 foot support beam we tried to install today.

Living Alone

I’m sitting on my deck tonight. I just finished a walk around my property. I try to do that each day. Though this summer the mosquitos were vicious so I did t do the walk everyday. They are settling down a bit so tonight was tolerable.

I cleaned up the house a bit today. I really enjoy it when things are put away. Living alone I have found I can go great lengths of time without putting things away. In fact, I might have little stacks of projects in various stages. I can still hear the echoes of voices from my mom and my ex wives telling me to put stuff away. My rebellion comes out a bit when I choose to ignore them. But, really is it them I hear or my own voice? I know I enjoy a clean organized home. So why the days where I let it go? It probably is a matter of what is important to me in the moments.

I also replaced a few under counter lights with LED variety. It looks pretty good with the new lighting. I think I’ll put a smart switch on them with a dimmer.

Now I sit on the deck writing this out. Here is a look at what I see from here. The red building is not mine. But the view of the distant sky is all mine. It’s been pretty awesome. I do love it here.

Enough with Social Media

I’ve had enough with Social Media. It’s a catch 22 you know. I don’t do a lot of posting on Facebook or others that would get blocked by the censorship engine of those platforms. I do see the writing on the wall. I honestly believe it is only a matter of time before any comments I post will somehow be controlled, modified, or blocked without my knowledge. Therefore, I plan to use my own blog platform to capture the things on my mind. Then I’ll share it over to the other platforms as appropriate. This way, I feel I will truly control my content. Sure FB and others may impact my shares from here. I’ll still own my content. And, who knows, maybe my friends will subscribe to my site and see my new posts directly.

Regardless, it’s time to take control of my stuff. I know it is so easy to just share right from the phone onto Social Media. I figured out how to just write on my phone and post right to my blog. Just as easy.

I’m a pretty staunch supporter of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Censorship is not something I’m a big fan of. So, if I’m going to be an ardent supporter of the 2nd amendment, I will also do the same for the 1st.

Please join me. Maybe you’ll even consider creating your own blog too.
